Here we have your standard whining about affirmative action and non-white/non-male/non-rich, etc…people doing… anything.  

Their arguments:

She isn’t a level two judge

Omg perish the thought someone wouldn’t need to be a judge to play in a tournament,

She hasn’t been playing for over 15 years 

A variation of ageist arrogance if ever I saw it, people like this piss me off, and I’d love to have someone look down on them an say something like “yeah well you haven’t been playing for 20 years so…” etc…,

She didn’t qualify for the pro tour 10 times already 

Someone is really butthurt here… last time I checked you only need to qualify for something once to be.. uh… qualified?,

She’s just a random level two judge who happened to be a vagina owner (who only became a level two judge by owning a vagina)

First off they are contradicting themselves as they had already said she isn’t a level 2 judge, secondly does anything else really need to be said?  The sexism speaks for itself.

She actually has a penis (rumor unconfirmed)

Aaaaaan boom there goes the dynamite.  Out comes the trans-misogyny.  Can’t handle the competency of a female?  Let’s use sexist and trans-misogynistic ad hominems because heck, we’re already logically and morally bankrupt! 

They then go on to rant about how now the evil Wizards of the Coast feminazis will seek parity with all things, colour, age, race, blah blah blah and heralds this as the end of Magic.  They talk about how this will take the competitive nature out of the pro tour & magic in general (on this subject I’ll speak shortly), and then finish up with extremely racist references to black people including terms such as “big booty bitches”.  Seriously I couldn’t make this shit up, go check it yourself.

It’s people like this that give any nerd subculture a bad name and show the ugly and often unidentified/ignored/purposefully perpetuated culture of racism, sexism, etc in nerd subcultures (which are already quite insular and have their ranks tightened).  Any criticism of sexism, etc is seen as a criticism of the “love of the game” or the game itself of a personal slight, which is of course bullshit.  GAMERS, OF ANY STRIPE, CALL OUT YOUR FELLOW GAMERS WHEN THEY ARE BEING BIGOTED ASS HATS FOR FUCK’S SAKE! YOU’RE NOT BETRAYING THE GAME OR WEAKENING THE FOLLOWING, YOU’RE MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE AND PAVING THE WAY TO HAVING MORE PEOPLE ENJOY THE GAME BECAUSE THERE IS LESS ELITIST BULLSHIT.

Now, a couple personal points about the competitive aspect of Magic in particular.  I understand it is a game, I understand there is a winner and a loser, and I understand that there will always people who play like they are in the tournaments (regardless of whether they are or not) and play to win (often at all costs); but I refuse to accept that as the only - or indeed the best - way to play.  No one fucking likes a power gamer, no one likes spikes, no one enjoys playing with people who apply cutthroat capitalist principles to everything they do, especially in their leisure time. 

Do I play to win?  Well, I suppose so?  I play to have fun, sometimes I have more fun losing spectacularly than winning like a prick.  At the end of the day it’s not if you win or lose that matters, it’s how you act in regards to these eventualities.  And people who take this ass hattery to the next level and start to impose elitism over the entire genre by saying that some people should and other people shouldn’t play are fucking pricks.  So in conclusion I think we can all see how this person embodies everything wrong with Magic - or any nerd subculture.  Fuck them.
