Dec 21

Today in my town there was an Idle No More demonstration.

I was at the Idle No More kickoff protest in Edmonton on the 10th of Dec and it was one of the most empowering protests I had ever been too.

But this, this really took my breath away.  I have never in my 19 years of living here seen anyone protest anything… ever.  And yet today, there were over 50 people out at noon decrying Stephen Harper’s actions of desecration against nature, and shredding of the Treaties.  There was a prayer song, and a couple people spoke, it was a lot more intimate than the protest in Edmonton, but no less potent; these were people I knew, people I’d seen around town for years.  We chanted and waved at traffic (and even blocked it for a short while!).  After I left I  saw a large group of the protesters (I’d say about 30) marching on the road around town.

At -38 the people of my town were out protesting.  Our extremities were cold and our hearts lifted.  Harper, you’ve woken a sleeping giant, one that should have been roused ages ago.  If you’ve done anything of worth, it’s allowed for Aboriginal people across this country to organize and try & defend themselves and the land we all live on.

Sometimes my cynicism lifts and I’m given hope, today was one of those days.

It’s good to be home.

The distinct lack of winter this year has fucked with my internal body clock and concept of seasons.

Seriously.  Fuck all of you Alberta for your lack of winter.  Fuck you fuck you fuck you.

And fuck everyone who is psyched about there being no winter.  I pray to Thor that you’ll all be buried under 10 feet of snow come June for your insolence!
